Customers with Co‑operative Bank Home, Contents or Car Insurance can find helpful information and how to make a claim here

Why we're moving away from cheques

The use of cheques has continued to decline as many New Zealanders now make payments electronically. We’re here to support you through this change, and can help you find other payment options that will suit you.

What you need to know

From Thursday, 20 May 2021, we’ll no longer accept cheque deposits into a Co‑operative Bank account.

If you receive a cheque after this date, we suggest that you contact the person who wrote the cheque and arrange for the payment to be made using another payment option.

Customers should also stop writing cheques as most places, including banks, will no longer accept cheque deposits. You'll still be able to use the CHQ option at EFTPOS or ATM's to access your money in your accounts.

From Wednesday 30 June, 2021 we will no longer honour Co‑operative Bank cheques. This means your Co‑operative Bank cheques, including your personal cheques and any Bank Cheques issued by The Co‑operative Bank, will be dishonoured after 30 June 2021.

Alternative payment options

The easiest way to see your banking, and make payments, is online via internet banking and our mobile app. If you need a hand getting set up, we've got instructions on how to do that here.

Pay with your Debit MasterCard online, in store or over the phone.

Make a one-off payment to another account. You can use this to pay bills, your credit card or transfer money to another person.

Set up a direct debit for payments like a bill or your credit card. The organisation you’re paying to will organise the payment, including the amount and date of each upcoming payment.

Set up an automatic payment to another account. You can use this to make a regular payment of the same amount to a business or another person.
