Profit share is about sharing our success with customers

In 2026, we’re sharing $1.2 million in the form of rebates with eligible customers. This brings the total amount returned to customers since 2013 to $25 million and counting.

Proud to be a co-operative

At The Co‑operative Bank, we’re proudly different. As a 100% customer‑owned bank, we’re here for our customers. When we do well, we share that success with them through rebates, making us the only bank in New Zealand to do so.

Sharing $1.2 million with customers in 2026

This year, we’re sharing $1.2 million with eligible customers through our profit share.

Rebates come from a portion of the Bank’s profits and discretionary in nature, so they aren’t guaranteed, but when we’ve performed well and are in a position to share our success, we will.

Our commitment to sharing value

This year’s rebate pool is smaller, reflecting lower profits for the Bank.

We know this may mean some customers receive a smaller rebate than in previous years, but it reflects our ongoing investment in improvements behind the scenes to deliver even better banking for you, while continuing to share value in other ways.

We’re focused on delivering value to you every day, in ways that are immediate, practical, and meaningful, as well as sharing in our success when we do well.

How rebates work

As a co‑operative, we try to share our success with our customers. Simply put, the more you bank with us, the more your rebate could be.

Your rebate is based on your banking activity over the year ending 31 March. This includes things like how much you save or borrow and how regularly you deposit money.

You may not receive a rebate if your banking activity has been low, your accounts haven’t been kept up to date (for example, if payments were missed), or you’ve only recently joined us.

If you’re eligible, your rebate will be paid directly into your Co‑operative Bank Everyday or Savings account.

Better banking, built for today and tomorrow

We reinvest the rest of our profits into our people, technology and customer-focused improvements. This helps us deliver a better banking experience for our customers today, while building a stronger co‑operative for the future.

A message from CEO Mark Wilkshire

“Reaching $25 million returned to customers is something we are proud of. It reflects how a co-operative model can work and what banking can look like. Our customers are our owners, and when we do well, they do well,” says Wilkshire.

“For us, that is what a fair share can look like in practice, returning value to the people who bank with us.”
